“Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.”
The gun has spoken, or maybe it hasn’t. We meet the figure in the aftermath, or in the hesitation before it, a moment where anger, pain, and control collide. The painting sits in that question, what do we do when we’ve been wronged?
Our instinct is to respond, to even the score, to take justice into our own hands. This work resists that impulse.
“Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.” — Romans 12:19
It reminds us that justice is not ours to carry, and that restraint is not weakness, but faith. The man holds the power to act, but the piece leaves us with a question, did he choose not to?
